The marketing was well done when it comes to promoting the use of oils. Did you know that in the past, before I discovered our Natural Diet I worked for a “healthy oil company”? I was involved in marketing and trade shows showcasing our oily products. My boss was apparently the first guy to cold press flax oil and bring it to the North American market, the companies name was Omega Nutrition” and we sold coconut oil, flax oil, olive oil, hemp seed oil and Mtc oil. We were the main supplier for the Gerson Institute- we supplied all their flax oil for their protocols.  Unfortunately I also witnessed many people that didn’t fare well on their protocols but that is another discussion.  I became very familiar with the marketing strategies and promotional information used to promote oils in the diet, in fact I believed back then that oils were health promoting and I would choke down a spoonful of coconut oil daily even though my gag reflex was strong.  Isn’t it interesting how we will ignore the body and our senses when our beliefs are strong?

The problem with oils and products that are separated from the whole food is that they are no longer a whole food and the benefits we would normally receive by eating the whole food in its natural form is no longer the same when we concentrate, fractionate, isolate and separate certain parts to create a whole other product. We mistakenly believe that because a food or plant possesses certain nutrients than if we only eat those specific nutrients in concentrated form we can gain more nutritional benefit – (here’s a link to a post that Lauren wrote explaining this phenomenon in more detail

(📸 Look at this post on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/share/p/8SLvwRPBBi6h41T8/?mibextid=WaXdOe ).

In reality the true benefits and nutrition that we receive comes from eating the whole food in its natural form with all its counterparts in tact. Nothing good results from compartmentalization. We require all the counterparts of a particular food to receive its benefits because that’s the way it was designed by nature! The human body was designed for the foods nature provides us and wasn’t designed to process concentrated versions.

The industry has done a brilliant job in marketing the concentrated oils as more beneficial than just eating the whole food they were originally extracted from.

“That’s called expedient redefining of terms. It’s done by industry all the time. “Fractionated” means removed, separated from its original source. Coconut vs. coconut oil. The human body has not adapted the ability to properly make use of free oils, those that are separated from the context of the foods that contain them. It’s not that hard to understand really.”- Lauren Whiteman

“The problem with all oils is that they are a completely unnatural, fractionated, food-like substance. They are 100% fat with none of the nutrients or fiber. Fats are unstable so oil begins to go rancid within minutes of being separated from the rest of the plant. This means 100% of oils of all kinds found in the grocery store are rancid food. They really have no redeeming qualities, so I cannot think of any way to potentially rank them. I would say for transitioning, instead of worrying about the type of oil, just try to focus on using less. For most applications, you can substitute water or vegetable broth for oil. You can water saute vegetables instead of using oil, just sub water for the same amount of oil. In baking, you can often substitute apple sauce or bananas for the oil portion of the baked goods. You can use parchment paper for baking instead of greasing pans. For something where you really need to use oil try using a mister to apply oil so you are using as little as possible.”

“Coconut Oil is a refined fractionated “food” which is toxic to the body.  It has been heavily marketed and pushed through the “health food” community based on faulty studies funded by the industry itself but there is no truth the idea that Coconut Oil offers any health benefits at all.   Coconut Oil will give you a heart attack as quickly as butter will.”

Here’s another insightful comment that Lauren wrote on a thread in the Terrain Group.

“All oils should be avoided.

The following is by Lauren Whiteman …

“Internally oils offer no benefit to us. They are 100% fat with no nutrient value so they are just a burden on digestion.

Externally it is best to keep our skin clear of any products since the skin is an elimination organ that pushes waste out. If we put oils or creams or anything else on the skin it blocks the skin from being able to expel outwards.

If someone has a really uncomfortable symptom and needs something for relief then oils could be used in that narrow instance, although it will slow the healing of the body as a whole, sometimes the discomfort requires a little relief and in those cases, I would consider using something like Jojoba, coconut or olive oil.

Otherwise, it’s best to use nothing on the skin, no soap, no cosmetics, no oils, no creams or lotions.   Instead, we build beauty from the inside out through proper diet and hydration.”

In conclusion, as per usual, there isn’t a product, nor extract, that is superior in nutrition compared with eating the whole food – as it was designed in Natural form.
