When we buy processed products such as nut/plant milks from the store, our health takes a hit.  Yes, we are doing better by not choosing dairy, however, with the amount of preservatives and unnecessary & health harming ingredients contained in these store bought plant milks, I would say that it’s criminal to be allowing these processed products on the shelves for people to consume.

I have a family member that uses Organic Almond Milk, I went through the process of reading the ingredients of every plant milk available in the store and the best one that I could find still contains preservatives, fillers & substances hidden under the word “vitamins”. 

So, what am I going to do about it? 

I searched up a “No Strain” Almond Milk Recipe on my Thermomix TM6 and I chose a recipe that is only 3 ingredients & much easier to make myself than it is to actually go out and buy a processed version.

The ingredients are soaked almonds, a splash of vanilla, water and a few whole dates… the beauty is that I don’t have to measure or weigh out anything because the Thermomix does it for me with its built in scale where I can just add the ingredients and the Thermomix will indicate when I’ve added enough! 

The preservatives in the store bought almond milk push the shelf life of the product to 10 days on average after opening.  Homemade Almond milk lasts up to 5 days in the fridge.  

I think I’ll trade a shorter shelf life over the plethora of carcinogenic preservatives and fillers in the store bough version because there’s hardly an almond in the processed almond milks!

Almond milk RAW version = use raw almonds, not toasted or blanched

Almond milk MUCUSLESS version= make banana milk instead (blend dates, water, 2 bananas, keep watery)
