Homesteading Part 2
This is a continuation from last weeks Homesteading post if you want click this link to read it.
We had just left the farm, and had moved to a friends orchard in our tiny home/trailer to take on the responsibility of maintaining their orchard of pears, apples, cherries, nectarines and peaches, and to get a garden going for everyones benefit. On this property, a community was forming. There was the house where the owner of the property lived, and another couple that lived in a dome down by the lake. Things seemed to be falling into place. We were slowly improving our diet, and feeling improvements in our health.
There was this one day that changed my life from that point on. I was upstairs in one of the outbuildings on the property where Selena (I won’t use her real name) had much of her books, and toys for her son. She turned this area into a common area for the community. I was looking through her book collection and one book caught my eye. It was titled “Rational Fasting” by Arnold Ehret. I remember reading the back, and it mentioned fasting. Fasting was not something that I had any amount of knowledge on, yet I felt really drawn to this book. I decided to borrow it. As I was walking down the stairs with the book in my hand, my father was walking up the stairs. He had come by for a visit at that very moment. He lived at least an hour away. He saw this book in my hands and made a comment that Arnold Ehret just “Irks him”, what he said almost made me think twice about reading it. I told him that I was interested in reading it and so he said to let him know what I thought of it.
When I called him a few days later, I had told him that it was the most important book that I had ever read in my life. I found this book so interesting, and full of knowledge, that I couldn’t put it down. I read the entire book within 2 evenings. Now I wanted to know why my father was so against this book. It turns out that he had read this book at the age of 19 (about 7 years before I was born), and because he found it to be life changing as well, he took some major steps in his life such as changing his diet, and even moving to Hawaii to eat quality fruits, and to have a ideal place to fast. His family apparently gave him a very difficult time. They did not understand what he had learned, and of course, to the average person, eating fruits and fasting seems so extreme. They were also worried about him because when an individual begins to detoxify, and eliminate waste from the body, weight loss is inevitable – although not permanent. He had lost weight. Once the body rids itself of “all that does not serve it”, it will rebuild on the superior and more healthy foods such as fruits, leafy greens and vegetables. This is a process however, and it takes time, and a lot of patience. Family and friends do not understand this and therefore, it scares them. This process takes a full understanding of what must take in order to reach a higher level of health and not very many people possess the strength, or the will to see it through. When you have your family members hounding you, and attempting to deter you from your path, it makes things extremely difficult, I see this time and time again with the individuals that I work alongside. If the family is not with you, they tend to be against you. I experienced it myself with other family members, in fact, my father who learned this information for himself tried to deter me from reading the book the moment he saw me with it!
So you can see why that moment was so profound. Here he had tried to deter me from reading the book, but why? My reasoning after speaking with him further on the subject is that he knew that anyone who decides to incorporate the information contained within Arnold Ehrets book was destined for a difficult time with society, family, friends and even oneself. A change in diet and lifestyle changes who you are, how you perceive things, and how others perceive you. Something as simple as changing what you eat can have profound effects on ones life, and he knew this, I feel that he didn’t want me to have to endure what he had to go through long ago. There is also the point that he raised a few times over, some people can really take the information too far, it can become somewhat of a “religion” or “belief system” that others will feel repelled by. It can begin to define who you are if you let it. I can see that now. When I first learned of this information, I wanted to share it with everyone. I just knew that I had finally uncovered some truth in this world, and I felt that everyone deserved (and would want) to know. I figured out pretty quickly that it is best to keep ones dietary/health practices to oneself unless someone asks. So, that is what I did once I wised up to this fact. I had a long way to go on my own healing journey before I could speak about what was optimal or healthy for anyone else.
After 2 years of living on a mucusless / mucuslean diet, I was very satisfied with the results. The most difficult aspect was dinner with family and friends, or explaining the lifestyle to others when they inquired. My long list of health issues was becoming shorter. I was experiencing less headaches, my moods were improving, I had lost waste/weight, my body was feeling more energetic. Of course I had to go through some major up’s and downs as well. There was an entire year where I suffered such extreme fatigue and tiredness (because I had eliminated all stimulants from my diet) that I felt tired just walking around. I was so tired and exhausted that the smallest chores such as feeding the horses would feel as if I had run a marathon. My daily duties in life felt like major tasks. I had incorporated intermittent fasting and during the times that I was not eating food, I just felt like I couldn’t do anything. As time passed, and I cleaned up my inner terrain, I began to feel more energetic. My energy levels slowly returned, my motivation returned, and I knew that I had put in a lot of the necessary work in order to take my health to the next level. In the past, I had taken more pharmaceuticals than one person should ever take. I also suffered from a major vaccine induced injury that contributed to my toxic inner terrain. Pharmaceuticals, and these dangerous vaccines are bio-accumulative, which build up within the body, get stored in the liver, and can cause a lot of difficulty during detoxification as they come into circulation for elimination. This is why I feel so fortunate to have discovered Arnold Ehrets information first, that enabled me to detoxify very slowly, and to prepare my body for a deeper healing experience when I was ready to do so. I look at the first two years as preparation. That was only the beginning. A healing journey requires commitment to a new lifestyle, it is not just a diet, it is a long term way of living so that the body can heal at its own pace, in its own time.
After approximately two years, I discovered Dr. Robert Morse. Dr. Robert Morse teaches of the benefits of a high fruit diet and herbal remedies. While I agree that fruits are the highest form of nutrition, I also feel that it is important to prepare the body to be able to receive the maximum benefits from an all fruit diet, or a high fruit diet. If someone such as myself jumped into all fruits from the very beginning, I would have had such a difficult time (more than I already did taking it slowly) because of the state of my inner terrain, not only had I taken to many pharmaceuticals and suffered with vaccine damage, but I also dealt with heavy metal toxicity, severe trauma (mental and physically) from 2 major car accidents and other traumatic issues that I won’t dive into. Looking back, It is now very obvious just how toxic I once was, and out of alignment! After learning and studying iridology, I was able to see just how much work I had to do to heal. I suffered with liver, stomach and other organ and gland weaknesses. My green eyes also revealed fungal overgrowth (candida) within. In iridology, there are only two true eye colours, blue and light brown, all other variations are layers of toxicity expressing themselves as different colours in the iris. My dark green eyes revealed just how far I had to go on my healing journey. Today, they are closer to a blue colour, I’ve eliminated a lot of the fungus and toxicity which is reflected in my iris. Someday I will be posting my before and after photos of my eyes – because hardly anyone believes that it is possible to change ones eye colour because hardly anyone ever does. So after discovering Dr.Morse, I was fascinated by his information, so fascinated that I took his online Detoxification Specialist Course. I really enjoyed studying his information and learning it thoroughly. My diet slowly changed to reflect a high fruit diet. Overtime, It became easier to fast until noon daily, and to begin my day with fruits. I began incorporating cleanses such as doing an entire month on fruits, or a week on fresh juices. Over the years, I’ve incorporated several water fasts, juice cleanses, fruit cleanses, 1 year on raw foods, etc. I say this is a lifestyle because this diet is ever-changing with no specific way to go about it, other than doing what you can, when you can with the correct information at hand. People ask me all the time, “what should I eat”, and there is an easy answer which is, If you can keep your diet focussed on fruits, greens and vegetables, your body will thank you, however, it’s not always that simple when you factor in ones current state of health. Some people can’t tolerate fruit at all in the beginning stages and when this occurs, this is indicative of just how backed up their lymphatic system really is and that they must take things extra slow. For these individuals, I would suggest beginning with cooked fruits, cooked vegetables and lots of leafy greens. There is not a one size fits all, there is however, a complete return to the foods that we were designed to eat at our own pace.
Health is true wealth. I feel that it is the most important and rewarding path that anyone can take if they so desire. Without health, every situation, thought, experience is not reaching its full potential. We must obtain health for many reasons, one of the most important reasons in my mind is for self dependency/sufficiency. I want to be in control of my own destiny and to have complete say over my own health, this is important to me. The doctors cannot help anyone heal their health issues. They are excellent with bone setting and emergency trauma care, however, If you enlist in their services for health issues that took many years to develop, it is likely that you will be given some type of pharmaceutical, or surgery, to suppress, or cut out the symptoms, instead of addressing the root cause. The root cause is – why did the body develop such issues in order to express as specific symptoms? It takes time to heal the body. It takes a lifestyle change, combined with dietary changes. I didn’t heal my health issues overnight, it took years of dietary and lifestyle application & plenty of ups and downs. No one can tell you exactly how long it will take for your body to heal, however, it is almost guaranteed that anyone can heal in time because the body wants to heal and correct itself, that is precisely why symptoms present themselves, as messengers. When symptoms arise, the body is asking for change. If we listen, and begin creating the correct environment within for the body to heal, health will manifest overtime, you just have to be patient, and willing to go through the tough times in order to get to the healthy times. Detoxification isn’t always easy, yet if you understand that the symptoms that arise during detoxification are not forever, and that you are paying your dues from your past dietary / lifestyle choices, even your parents (genetic weaknesses) it makes things a whole lot easier.
I feel that I veered off topic as this post is titled “Homesteading”. I really just wanted to share my story with how I discovered this path, and to share my perspective on homesteading. In my life, I no longer require more variety than what fruits, greens, vegetables and herbs offer – and believe me, that is plenty of variety! Those individuals who feel that we need high protein diets, complete with animal products to survive, have to endure a lot of hardship to bring those products to the table in a homesteading lifestyle. It seems almost unfathomable to hear of someone such as myself living, and having the ability to live off of the land with just the vegetables, greens and fruits! It took quite some time to feel satiated with these foods only, however, overtime as we heal and eliminate toxicity from within, we become satisfied with less complex foods. Animal products and meats are extremely complex and stimulating, it takes time to transition over to the foods that promote health – such as the fruits, greens and vegetables. I grow sprouts all winter long ,and I can grow greens If I need to. last year I canned enough tomato sauces, fruit jams, etc. from the garden to last all winter. With a freezer and a dehydrator, it’s entirely possible to store enough foods to get one through the winter without having to rely on the grocery store. I feel that it is time to prepare in these ways because our world is changing and supply chains are breaking. Living off the land while eating a simple diet is not only possible, it is far more enjoyable, not a day goes by that I am not grateful that I no longer have to deal with death, slaughter, and all the mess and stench that comes with bringing animal products and meats to the table. Eating a diet closer to that which nature intended has some amazing side effects- such as health, and a simpler way of living. You can also leave your land for awhile without worrying about anything but the garden and trees!
I wish everyone the best along their journey. This post is not intended to tell anyone how to eat or live, it is only intended to shed some light on the fact that homesteading does not have to revolve around animal agriculture for survival.
