Coffee & Stimulants

Coffee is arguably one of the most difficult substances to eliminate from the diet.  Coffee is a stimulant which drains our nerve energy.  Check out the files section for an article to read on Coffee, Tea and Cocoa, it’s quite interesting.

Herbert Shelton once said “Life should be built on the conservation of energy.”

Our life force / nerve energy is essentially our lifeline, we must protect and conserve it for quality of life, and a longer life.  It is important to realize that certain substances can drain our reserves prematurely and if continually done over long periods of time, health issues can develop.

“Stimulation is irritation; a stimulant is a substance that temporarily occasions an increased vigor of action by means which exhaust the power of action, thereby actually reducing vigor. When this occurs, there must be a corresponding period of rest and sleep. Exhaustion necessitates depression; stimulation must be followed by debility. All of our poison habits have debilitating effects on the organism and increase the precariousness and fragility of life.”

Cause and effect.  The positive aspect in learning this information is that we also learn how to properly care for ourselves through more resting periods .

Jason Christoff wrote an article on coffee, I’ll share a couple of key points from his article here.

1. “Caffeine is an alkaloid that the coffee plant uses to kill bugs, which eat its’ seeds. The coffee plant also uses caffeine in the coffee pods to kill surrounding plants, so the coffee plant can attain more sunlight and grow larger. Caffeine is a pesticide, which causes genetic termination in living cells that come into contact with it.

3. Coffee can cause an urge to move ones’ bowels because this is one way the body tries to eliminate poison from the system.

4. Coffee increases energy via the human fight or flight metabolic response, because the body is afraid of the caffeine based poison. Coffee doesn’t give energy, it removes it from the body. The energy a person feels when they drink coffee is the body going into overdrive because caffeine is a poison and all poisons activate an energy release in the body. (fight or flight) Coffee removes energy from the system”.

So let’s talk solutions! How can we eliminate coffee and other stimulating substances from our lives?

I’ve found that these two approaches work for most people.

  1. Titrate slowly. Make your coffee, and with each passing day, you drink a little less, pour out more and more.  Some people prefer to water it down day by day, others prefer to just drink a bit less each day until eventually there’s none left to drink!
  2. Use a coffee substitute with the intention of eliminating the substitute overtime.  Dandelion root tea mixed with a little molasses has worked for people, or there are various coffee substitutes on the market, often made with mushrooms which are not ideal, but they are a stepping stone .

Many factors determine how easy, or difficult it is for an individual to eliminate coffee from their diet such as the health of your kidney/adrenal glands, age, how long you’ve been drinking it, current workload, occupation, etc.

If you’re struggling to eliminate coffee, don’t be too hard on yourself, just keep your goals fresh, focus on eating a healthy diet & eventually, as you heal within, your desire for coffee or other stimulating substances will become less.

If anyone here has had personal success with eliminating coffee from their diet, I would love to hear what worked for you! Please share how you managed to eliminate it. For some, it’s much easier to eliminate than for others.
